The Yorkshire Geological Society, founded in 1837, is an unincorporated membership society and a Charity Registered in England, no. 220014. It is governed by Officers and a Council who serve as Trustees of the Society, elected annually at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with the Rules of the Society, and with relevant charity law.
The objects of the Society shall be to promote and record the results of research in Geology and its allied sciences, more especially in Yorkshire by holding meetings for the reading of original papers and the delivery of public lectures and by field meetings; to extend knowledge of the science by demonstration and publication and by contributions to a library at the University of Leeds for the benefit of members and such other means as the Council may from time to time determine.

Annual General Meeting, 7th December 2019
The 2019 Annual General Meeting was held at Weetwood Hall, Leeds, on Saturday 7 December 2019, attended by 42 members and guests. The draft Annual Report and Accounts for 2019 were made available to members via email or on postal application in advance of the AGM, and taken as read at the meeting. The General Secretary Dr Andrew Howard presented some short highlights of Council business during the year, followed by a review of Society business and events by the President Paul Hildreth. The Financial Statement and Accounts for 2018–19 were presented by the General Treasurer, Mr John Holt.
The Annual Report and Accounts were duly adopted by the AGM for subsequent publication in the Proceedings of the Yorkshire Geological Society. The AGM approved the appointment of Mr Andrew Riby as auditor for the Society Accounts 2019–20.
